Chevron-Houston Marathon

The following schwag review was submitted by Nancy Winchester – a native of The Great White North transplanted in Houston, TX. Thanks Nancy!

What you get for your registration fee (I think it was around $80 last year):

1. Cotton short-sleeved t-shirt
2. Open Convention Center for pre-race assembly to stay warm and dry with lots of port-o-potties
3. Finisher’s medal
4. UnderArmor technical finisher’s shirt (looks awesome!)
5. Finisher’s beer mug
6. Hot breakfast (eggs, breakfast meats, biscuits, baked goods, coffee, chocolate milk, cookies) inside the Convention Center
7. Fairly big expo (smaller than Boston but bigger than New York)
8. Lots of free giveaways at the expo (cowbells and mini Chevron cars are two of my favorites)
9. Family meeting area inside the Convention Center (so they can be warm and dry too while they wait for you to eat your free breakfast!)

Here’s some updated info:

1. This year Houston is doing a lottery as they sold out really fast (3 days) last year.
2. Registration is $115, but you only pay if your name is chosen in the lottery.
3. The Aramco half marathon has the same perks and is $95, and the same policy of paying only if you are selected applies.

Bonus: The USA half marathon championship will be run the day before in 2011 and the US Olympic Qualifier for both men and women will be run in 2012, the day before the race as well.

Wow – sounds like a race to check out…that’s some pretty sweeeet schwag, y’all!
