It’s a New Year – got a plan?

by Head RunnerGurl

Ever notice it’s much easier to stick to something when you’ve got a plan or program to follow? Whether it’s training, writing, saving for a trip, or furthering your career, you’re not going to get much done without a plan in place.

Developing a roadmap and planning are essential for you to reach your goals. Yeah, it’s psychological, but it works. That’s why we feel guilty when we haven’t followed our plan.

For a plan to work best though, it needs to be written down or recorded somewhere. In your head is fine, but our heads tend to get a little cloudy and before you know it, your plan’s been buried underneath everything else going through your brain.

For running and fitness, my training plans are all loaded into the calendar function found at www.runningahead.com. That way, I can take a look at what I’m doing tomorrow anywhere, anytime. My nutrition’s tracked with www.myfitnesspal.com. Santa left an acoustic guitar under the tree for me at Christmas, so my practice and training sessions will be loaded into my iPhone’s calendar. I plan on writing here more frequently in ’12, which means I’ll be making a plan for that as well.

What are your goals for the year, and do you have a solid plan in place? Remember, your plan isn’t carved in stone – that’s what’s great about plans and goals, they can always change. But, if you’ve promised yourself you’re going to get fitter, faster, or lighter this year, or save up for that Caribbean getaway or new vehicle, get it planned out.

We all have to eat our elephants the same way, one small bite at a time.
